Water Play & Safety
Can all dogs swim?
No. Swimming ability varies by breed, body shape, health, fitness and experience. Some dogs may struggle to stay buoyant or become tired quickly. Introduce your dog to water gradually, supervise them continuously and use a properly fitted canine life jacket when appropriate.
How should I introduce my dog to water?
Begin in calm, shallow water with an easy exit. Allow your dog to approach the water at their own pace, reward relaxed curiosity and keep the first session short. Never throw, pull or push a dog into the water.
Does my dog need a life jacket?
A canine life jacket can provide additional buoyancy and visibility, especially for new swimmers, boat trips, open water and dogs that become tired easily. A life jacket does not replace active supervision. Always select dog-specific safety gear and follow the manufacturer’s fitting instructions.
How long should a water-play session last?
There is no single safe duration for every dog. Water temperature, weather, activity level and your dog’s age, health, fitness and swimming experience all matter. Begin with a few minutes, provide frequent rest and fresh water, and stop before your dog becomes tired, cold or overstimulated.
Is pool, lake or ocean water safe for my dog to drink?
Dogs should not drink pool water, salt water or untreated water from lakes, rivers and ponds. Bring clean drinking water and offer it regularly. Always check local water-quality and algae advisories before allowing your dog to enter natural water.
What should I do after my dog finishes swimming?
Rinse your dog with clean water to remove chlorine, salt, sand, algae and other residue. Gently dry their coat, ears and paws, inspect them for cuts or irritation and provide time to rest. Contact a veterinarian if you notice coughing, vomiting, unusual tiredness, breathing changes or other concerning symptoms.
Products & Care
Are floating dog toys chew-proof?
No dog toy is indestructible. Floating toys are designed for supervised, interactive play and should not be used as unsupervised chew toys. Choose an appropriate size, inspect the toy before and after every use, and replace it if it becomes torn, cracked or otherwise damaged.
How do I choose the correct toy size?
Check the sizing information provided on the product page and consider your dog’s mouth size, weight and play style. The toy should be comfortable to carry but too large to swallow. If your dog is between sizes or plays powerfully, select the larger suitable option.
How should I clean and store water toys?
Always follow the care instructions provided with the product. In general, rinse toys with fresh water after use, clean them gently with mild soap when permitted and rinse thoroughly. Allow each item to dry completely before storing it in a clean, dry place.
Will every SplashKin toy float?
Only products specifically described as floating are designed to remain on the water’s surface. Check the individual product description before use and test new toys in shallow, controlled water before taking them into deeper water.
